Habing Katutubo (meaning “indigenous weaving”) is an advocacy initiative started in 2019 by a group of creative Indigenous community members and volunteers in Baguio City focused on preserving, promoting, and celebrating the cultural heritage of Philippine indigenous weaving and traditional attire. The project champions hand-woven tapestries and garments from Indigenous Peoples across the Philippines, creating opportunities for cultural exchange, sustainable economic growth, and broader appreciation of ancestral textile artistry.
Through fashion shows, exhibits, and collaborative events, Habing Katutubo highlights the artistry, diversity, and cultural significance of indigenous textiles and attires, while fostering connections between artisans, designers, and the wider public. The initiative also hosts events such as Habing Katutubo: Panagbenga Edition and national showcases like the Philippine Indigenous Wears and Tapestries event in Metro Manila, emphasizing cultural pride, education, and heritage preservation.
The project’s work includes interactive weaving demonstrations, runway presentations featuring traditional and contemporary indigenous wear, and support for artisans and culture bearers. Habing Katutubo continues to expand its reach, drawing participation from Indigenous groups, designers, and creative collaborators committed to keeping weaving traditions alive for future generations.
